Skywatch Friday: Winter Train

Amtrak Train or the Polar Express? 12-14-08 by Kathiesbirds

We waited at the Flagstaff Train depot the train to come. In pulled into the blue station in the predawn hours under cobalt blue skies and a half hour late. The outside temperature was 18 degrees Fahrenheit. With the fresh dusting of snow it felt like we were putting my Mom on the Polar Express. Say Hi to Santa for me Mom, and have a safe trip home in time for the holidays!

Snow, snow, crazy snow! I saw pictures of snow in Joshua Tree--must have been the same storm. Oh well, you have the assurance that it won't last until April! Merry Christmas, Kathie and Gus and thank you for all that you share with us fledgling bird lovers.

Gorgeous photo - it did remind me of the polar express!

It definately looks like a winter wonderland with a warning sky. If you'd gone to Williams you could take the Polar Express to the south rim of Grand Canyon.
Great capture.

Wonderful Christmas SkyWatch photo, Kathie! My son is sitting next to me while we browse the blogs this afternoon, and when he saw your picture he immediately said, "Look, it's the Polar Express!" Great minds...

Hope you had a great Christmas!

It does look like a scene from a fairy tale or a children's book. I hope your mom had a good trip home. Happy holidays and happy skywatch.

That is the Polar Express. I would love to be on that train. You really captured the spirit of that moment - not to mention the prelude to a journey. I hope she had a good ride.

Beth, Merry Christmas to you too!

Vamsee, Welcome and thank you! Cobalt blue is one of my favorite colors!

Celeste, we did have a great Christmas. Wait until you see what we did! (It does involve birds and birding!)

Doug, I did and I hope you enjoyed New England!

shellmo, what can I say, great minds...

gaelyn, I did see that on the news. Maybe next year I can visit there. I hear that you have to make reservations well in advance though.

Kyle, so glad I made your son smile! Yes, great minds do think alike!

Deborah, Merry polar Christmas! I know it's cold where you are! Maybe you need a sunshine express! (or a palm tree express, a cactus express, a citrus express...)

Wren, Mary, and Bookbabie, thank you! merry Christmas to all of you also.

TR, Mom is safely back home in that crazy New England weather where it is snowing one day, raining the next, then 65 degrees! She had a white Christmas but its all gone now!
