I spent a week travelling all around Arizona counting birds but last Friday when I was on my way home I was ready to GET home. However, a traffic backup on I-10 near Picacho Peak in 104 degree heat was enough incentive to get off the road and do somemore bird watching. I took the Picacho Peak exit and stopped at the local Dairy Queen before heading off down the back roads of Arizona. Eventually I found my way to the Pinal Air Park and Trico Road. Serenaded by a western meadowlark, I took this picture of the western mountains and the surrounding agricultural fields. Over my head a family of western kingbirds hunted insects from the utility lines and though I was hot and weary and ready for home, this spot was a pleasant find and the scenery was refreshing.

like the sky there...a nice capture with the green fields in the foreground.
have a lovely weekend.
Kathie, I love how you find birds and everywhere and don't sweat the small stuff. Your sky is excellent.
Just gorgeous!!! I like the jagged mountains. Nice capture.

Oh...those colors are great. I was in Arizona this week but only saw clear blue skies and experienced very HOT temps!
'Serenaded by a meadow lark' how vey, very beautiful in a lovely place like this.
Dairy Queen and a beautiful view with bird songs....what more can you ask for? Lovely shot. Don't pass out in the heat!
Love how green the bottom is against the gold and then dark mountain range, great shot!
Beautiful bands of color, looks like a tapestry or a quilt!
I agree with Deb, I like the bands of color.
Sorry you are losing part of your view. Some people wouldn't even miss it, but I can tell you appreciate a good sunrise or set.
Have a nice weekend!
Beautiful sky and mountains..
Great shot Katie..
What a dramatic landscape, it looks almost like a painting.
Kathie, you certainly are showing all of your readers how beautiful the desert can be. BTW, have you visited the Boyce Thompson Arboretum near Superior yet? It's really good to visit during spring and fall migrating periods. Heidi and I visited in mid-June, and it was like a butterfly heaven, and there were plenty of birds around, too.
104 degrees! That reminds me of when I used to work in Tobacco as a teenager.-I here that it's not as humid out there though.
Itsnotjustapicture, thanks!
gaelyn, sure beats creeping slowing along a blazing hot highway!
Lisa, thank you!
Linnea W, it has been extrodinarily hot! I hope you had a good time anyway.
Arija, it was peaceful and much cooler since the clouds rolled in. I got home much later than intended however.
Mary, I am trying to be sure I don't pass out. I wear a hat and drink lots of water!
Larry d, thanks for your visit.
Boobkbabie, I like those stipes of color also.
Deborah, you and bookbabie think alike!
fourwinds, you are correct! Thanks for noticing!
Syaa_Figg, thank you!
Celeste, it would make a nice painting I think.
Mary, I have been to Boyce Thompson many times, most recently last week. It was hot but I still saw 35 species of birds in one day there! It's one of my most favorite places in AZ. Thanks for suggesting it though.
Larry, when you get above 100 degrees, it is all too hot. As for the humidity, well, it is dry in May and June but during the Monsoon it is much more humid or it wouldn't rain. I don't like humidity and it makes the heat much worse. The humidity here was one of the big surprises for me about living in AZ!
